Elizabeth Flood, Robert Maynard, Ruth Beckford, C.L. Dellums — just a few of the people who have shaped Oakland’s history. Join Oakland Urban Paths and the city of Oakland Walking Tours program for a 2.5 hour walk celebrating some of Oakland’s black history.
I’m interested in the black history walks. Are there others besides 2/8? If so how do you sign up for them?
This is the only time this year OUP will have the 2.5 hour walk.
However, the city of Oakland does the 1.5 hour New Era, New Politics tour May through October and for schools. See: https://www.oaklandca.gov/topics/walking-tours
I also recommend the Black Panther Party history tour, led by former BPP member Saturu Ned. See: https://blackpantherpower.com/pages/contact-us
Are the number of attendees limited? Do you use microphones? I find groups that are too large disappointing because of the difficulty hearing from the guide as the group inevitably gets spread out. Thank you
Yes, we limit the number of attendees and use a microphone. It’s a better experience for all that way.
